Club History

Est. 1996

Formed in 1996 from the merger of the Brisbane Bears and the Fitzroy Lions, the Brisbane Lions quickly became one of the most dominant forces in AFL history. Under Leigh Matthews, the club won three consecutive premierships from 2001 to 2003 — a feat unmatched in the modern era. The Lions returned to the summit in 2024 under Chris Fagan, defeating Sydney in a memorable Grand Final.
