McKenna returned to the AFL with the Brisbane Lions in 2023 after three years back home in Ireland, and slotted straight into a rebounding half-back role, strong by hand and foot and able to defend either way. He was part of the club's 2024 premiership. He has played 146 games and kicked 51 goals.
