Drafted at pick 16 in 2017 as a running half-back from the Oakleigh Chargers, Richards carries family pedigree through Collingwood's Ron and Lou Richards. His move into the Western Bulldogs' midfield in 2024 transformed his career: in 2025 he won the Charles Sutton Medal as club champion and earned All-Australian selection. He has played 172 AFL games and kicked 80 goals.
