Opened in January 2018, Optus Stadium replaced Subiaco Oval as the home of AFL football in Western Australia. Designed to host cricket and rugby as well as AFL, it quickly became one of the most impressive venues in Australian sport.

History

Built at a cost of $1.6 billion, Optus Stadium opened in January 2018 with a rectangular and oval configuration. It hosted the 2021 AFL Grand Final — only the second Grand Final played outside Victoria — during a pandemic-affected season. The stadium sits on Burswood Peninsula across the Swan River from the Perth CBD, connected to the city by the Matagarup Bridge. Both West Coast and Fremantle moved from Subiaco Oval when it opened.
