Opened in 2000 as Colonial Stadium and now known as Marvel Stadium, this all-weather venue hosts five Melbourne-based AFL clubs. Its retractable roof means the football never stops — a first for an AFL venue.

History

Marvel Stadium was purpose-built for AFL football and opened in March 2000 as Colonial Stadium. Renamed through successive naming rights deals (Telstra Dome, Etihad Stadium, Marvel Stadium), it is owned by the AFL itself since 2016. The retractable roof takes around 15 minutes to close and has transformed winter football in Victoria. The playing surface was upgraded in 2018 and the precinct underwent a major refurbishment in 2023.
