Arden Street Oval

History

Arden Street Oval was North Melbourne's home ground for 103 years, from 1882 to 1985, representing one of the VFL's longest continuous ground-club relationships. The ground hosted generations of Kangaroos supporters and witnessed the club's premiership years, becoming deeply embedded in North Melbourne's identity and tradition.

The oval's location in the heart of North Melbourne's traditional community gave the ground special significance as a gathering place for local supporters. Despite its age and modest capacity by modern standards, Arden Street maintained its importance as the spiritual home of the Kangaroos throughout its existence.

North Melbourne's move to the MCG in 1986 ended Arden Street Oval's 103-year AFL tenure, marking another significant transition in the club's history.

Legacy

Arden Street Oval's closure represented the end of another historic ground-club association. The venue continues as a training base for North Melbourne, preserving its connection to the club while serving modern sporting and community purposes that reflect its ongoing importance to the local area.
