Papley was a working plumber when the Sydney Swans took him at pick 14 in the 2016 rookie draft. The 177cm small forward played at least 20 senior matches in each of his first four seasons, topped the club's goalkicking in 2019 and reached his 200th match in 2026. He has played 215 AFL games and kicked 336 goals.
