A hard-running link player used on a wing or at half-forward, Byrnes added 17 matches in 2025 and was re-drafted by St Kilda at the end of that season, taking him into a seventh year at the club. The 181cm Victorian debuted in 2020 and is prized for his clean use on both sides of the body. He has played 95 AFL games and kicked 19 goals.
