Macdonald debuted in Round 1, 2022 after arriving with pick 26 in the 2021 national draft, and missed only a handful of matches across his first three seasons. In 2025 he kicked 22 goals across 24 appearances, troubling the scoreboard 16 times, before swapping the No.31 for the No.9 guernsey in 2026. He has played 114 AFL games and kicked 87 goals.
