A father-son selection at pick 59 in the 2024 national draft, Welsh is the son of Scott, who kicked 270 goals in 129 games for Adelaide between 2000 and 2007 after a premiership at North Melbourne. Tyler kicked 10 goals in 10 SANFL league games for the Crows in his draft year and eight in his only under-18 appearance for Woodville-West Torrens. He is yet to play a senior AFL game.
